USPS Sends out CURE letters to Contractors on GPS compliance
The USPS has sent letters to 182 contractors stating that they are not in GPS compliance. Contractors should answer stating what they are doing to comply and emphasize any problems that are occurring beyond their control. Willful non-compliance with the USPS GPS requirement could lead to a contract cancellation. Do not let this happen.

I will have a preliminary convention agenda published in the July Carrier. I have invited Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA) Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Relations Committee to address the convention which is a longshot since Congress is expected to excess for a month starting August 3rd. If Postal Legislation is passed by then, it will be very interesting to hear from him in person. We shall see.
USPS Announces Mail Processing Centers (MPC) Closings and Consolidations
On May 17, the USPS announced its plan to move ahead with a modified plan to consolidate its network of 461 Mail Processing locations in phases. Consolidations this summer will be at only 48 locations and occur in August and then will resume in early 2013. The USPS expects the new network to be fully implemented in 2014. The full press release is published elsewhere in this issue along with the link to the 140 mail processing locations to be consolidated by February 2013. This information and the locations will also be published on our website. Congress could pass legislation that could change this number and timeline but we will have to wait to see what it comes up with this summer.
