The National Star Route Mail Contractors Association represents Contractors in all 50 States and U.S. Territories. It is a non-profit association whose major goal is to provide legislative and regulatory protection to its members.

"In the spring of 2008, the Association continues to confront many challenges facing it with respect to the industries future with the USPS. We have had some successes on behalf of our membership during the 2007 year foremost of which was having the USPS adopt our suggestion to change the DOE quarterly fuel index for adjusting fuel costs to the use of a monthly one. Also, to permit CDS Contractors to recertify their fuel costs as of January 2008. We were also able to have Sprint-Nextel and AT&T provide cell phone accounts to our members as they do for the USPS.

Anti-Highway Contractor Legislation continues to be pending in the US Congress and we are making all out efforts to see that they don't pass. The legislation, if passed into law would prohibit the USPS from contracting out certain transportation routes. Voyager cards and reconciliation of fuel costs is an ongoing bone of contention and we are working to improve the system. The USPS is about to issue an RFP to outsource its BMC network, which would include the inter and intra transportation of mail and would impact a slew of our members and the industry at large. The Association is actively seeking to have the USPS remove and exclude transportation from any RFP. Contractors should stay in touch with the Association to determine the outcome of this RFP..."
